🕯️ The Echo App 🕯️
It started with a notification:
"Welcome back, Mira. Ready to hear what’s really going on around you?"
Mira didn't remember installing the app. It had a minimal interface—just a black screen and a single button that read:
"Listen."
Curious, she tapped it.
At first, it was ambient static. Then whispers emerged, low and unintelligible. She strained to make sense of it until a voice, unmistakably hers, hissed:
“They know you lied. They’re in the walls.”
She dropped her phone. The screen had changed. Her photo—taken from the front camera—was overlaid with a pair of black, lidless eyes. Below it:
“You can’t mute the truth.”
She deleted the app. Or tried to. It wouldn’t uninstall.
That night, she unplugged her router and turned off her phone. Still, she heard whispers through the vents. Her laptop booted by itself. The same message blinked on screen:
“You can’t mute the truth.”
By day three, her friends stopped answering calls. One finally texted back:
“We saw what you did, Mira. We saw it all. You’re cursed now. You echoed.”
She tried to remember. What had she done?
Then it hit her—the cabin trip last summer. The ouija board. The dare to record overnight and “hear what the dead say.” They laughed when the audio file whispered her name. She never listened to the full recording.
But the app did.
The Echo App was her voice, corrupted. Her confessions, twisted. It played her fears, her memories, her sins. It echoed.
And it never turned off.
They found her a week later, phone in her mouth, screen still glowing.
One word looped endlessly in a mechanical voice:
“Echo.”
Some apps can't be deleted. Some secrets can't stay buried.
